Hobbes fue uno de los actores británicos más prolÃficos.
Sus inicios fueron a principios de siglo en el teatro. Trabajó en Broadway y, más adelante, trabaja en el cine tanto en producciones inglesas como americanas.
Fue el general Armstrong en
To Be or Not To Be y Mr. Mufflin en
Luz de gas. También se le recuerda como el general Carew en la versión cinematográfica de 1932 de la obra de Stevenson "
Dr. Jeckyll y Mr. Hyde".
Halliwell Hobbes falleció el 20 de febrero de 1962 en
Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California.
